Much happened since the last entry, therefore it's necessary to update the latest news.
On Friday I joined a tour to the infamous Alcatraz, also called "the Rock" (as the so-called movie) because it's located on a small island in the bay. Firstly, we had to take the ferry.
On the island we all did a audio tour through the prison which is very interesting because the people who are talking are officers and prisoners. So you get firsthand information which makes it much more exciting.
Impressions
The next day my Korean classmate Bitna took me to a Korean restaurant. It was the first time I tried Korean food. I must admit that I really liked it:) Afterwards we went watching the Dark Knight in the IMAX (for the 2nd time;)) but I still love this movie!!
In the evening I drove to Castro (neighborhood, famous for homosexuals) to have dinner with my Swiss friends. All the waiters were incredibly friendly towards me.:)
After dinner we crossed the street and entered one of the most beautiful movie theaters I've ever seen: The Castro Theater. It looks like an old musical theater and a man was playing the organ until the movie started. At the entrance we all got a bag including a crown, soap bubbles, a fork, a lightstick, necklace...all the instruments that belong to Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" During the movie almost everyone was singing, using the instruments when they were appropriate (or not)...we had a great evening:)

It's incredible how fast time is running...It doesn't seem to me that it is already 17 days ago since I posted the last entry..but well...I'm afraid it is...
The last two weeks were really tough. I got a new teacher who puts much emphasis on vocabulary and the correct pronounciation, what I really appreciate. There is no day without repeating vocabulary and reading books but his classes are really fun!!!
Last time I mentioned that I was going to take Capoeira classes. Well, I've been there three times now and after every training my muscles hurt for a few days...;) But I really have to do something for my bodily fitness because I've already gained 4 kilos. It's fun to practise Capoeira. There you meet people from many different countries and they all look after you, help you and talk to you...it's very interesting.
Last weekend (8/15 to 8/17) I went to Los Angeles. On Friday we rented a car (Chevrolet;)) and cruised through L.A. We started in Santa Monica at the famous Santa Monica Beach (which looked like the one in Baywatch with the lifeguard houses and the muscular lifeguards who flirt with the sexy girls;)), then we drove to Bel Air which might be the richest living estate in the world, but we couldn't see very much because they all have gates and huge trees around their residences. It's inconceivable, sometimes they have their own driving range in their garden(!!!). The next stop was Beverly Hills. There we could also see very very very very very very nice houses. We also wanted to go shopping their but we just couldn't afford it;) (Ralph Lauren: Sweater $995; Tie $250). So we left Beverly Hills and drove to the well-known Hollywood sign. We asked people in the streets where we would get the best view...everyone said something different but finally we got a hint which led us to a place that you could name a photographer's dream. We had a great view on the sign and also on a part of Los Angeles with the sun going down. Eventually we were hungry and drove to the Walk of Fame which was nothing really special;)
After dinner we drove back to the airport where we seperated because mine and my friend's hotel was in Anaheim while the other two guys' hotel was in L.A. So we took a SuperShuttle to Anaheim. At eleven o'clock we finally arrived in the Anaheim Plaza Hotel which was a really beautiful hotel.
Impressions
After a few hours sleep we got up early to spend as much time as possible in the Disneyland. Therefore we entered Disneyland at 8:30am without having breakfast. We rode some rollercoasters until 11am because it didn't have that many people until then. At 11 we left the park (you can go out and go in as often as you want) to have a real American breakfest in Denny's:D Afterwards we went back and enjoyed the whole afternoon in the park. Later we attended the famous Disney Parade which was really cute:) We left the park again to have dinner at McDonald's and came back for the firework at 9:25. The firework was incredible. You stand in front of the Disney Castle and there are rockets, music, speeches....I was really moved..:) After that we watched another show about Mickey who was fighting against the evil;) It was astonishing! Then, we had still two hours left and we rode as many rollercoasters as possible during these two hours. It was great to ride them in the darkness...much more fun than during the day;) So, the day in the land where dreams come true went over at two o'clock...and we were really tired;) Impressions
The next morning we spent some hours in Downtown Disney which is free of charge. There are some stores, restaurants and hotels. Afterwards I relished the wonderful weather and went swimming in the pool. At noon our SuperShuttle picked us up and we went back to the foggy and cloudy San Francisco. When we arrived it was like going home, going back to reality after a nice weekend....but if I'm honest I start to miss Switzerland...
Alright then...I need to go to bed...it's getting late;)
See you soon!!

I'm delighted that I see you again here....I know it's a long time ago that you can find something new here but I really appreciate your patience;)
So what's up in San Francisco...actually the weather hasn't got better yet but we had some sunny days. Anyway, I know you aren't interested in the weather;) During the last three weeks I met a lot of people from all over the world which is kind of exciting, y'know;) I spend four hours at school a day, 9:00 to 13:00, and we have a really awesome teacher. It's fun to go there and I can really improve my English (I hope this sentence is correct because I'm actually not quite sure where to put the 'really'...;) If someone knows, please let me know!!)
In the afternoons I usually check out new places (see photos), for instance Fisherman's wharf (the most touristy place in SF), Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, cute cafés, apple stores, shopping malls, food corners, movie theaters....and so on...
I'm sure you would like to know what's going on at night but unfortunately I'm 'only' 18 and can't enter anywhere where alcohol is served...so I can't even attend jazz concerts and stuff like that.
But there is something I can really recommend to everyone who visits this incredibly liberal city, that's Stern Grove. There's a huge stage in the middle of a forest and there are really good concerts for free every Sunday afternoon. Last week guitar player Jorge Santana (brother of Carlos Santana; founder of Malo), drummer Greg Errico, trumpeter/trombonist Mic Gillette who played with the original Tower of Power....and many many more!! That was awesome!!!
Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'll join my Japanese roommate to his Capoeira class...I might like it and will do something for my bodily fitness;)
Then on Thursday and Friday I'm going to take the TOEIL exam and one week later on 15 August I'm flying to Los Angeles to spend the weekend there in the Disneyland in Anaheim:D
yeah...I think that's it for the moment! I'm delighted about every comment in my guestbook;) Have a good time and come back soon....
By the way I have a new number while I'm here in America. The number is: +1 415 623 9819
Cheers,
Reto
